Ozone 8 is a suite of plug-ins, optimized for mastering but suitable for mixing as well. I’ve worked with Ozone since version 1, and its evolution has been interesting. Instead of just piling on more features, successive updates have added significant new features while also streamlining the program’s workflow—a tough, but worthwhile, design goal. Given its high level of sophistication, Ozone 8 is surprisingly uncluttered, and easy to navigate. If you haven’t been up to date on recent updates, some of the most important ones are the mastering assistant, track referencing, tonal balance control plug-in, spectral shaping, additional “vintage” processors, and dynamic EQ. However, there are many additional tweaks, large and small, that have refined Ozone 8 further.
